Canada is one of the top 10th countries for tourists in the world. In fact, in 2019, Canada welcomed more than 32 million people coming to Canada for vacation and holidays. How much does a Canada travel trip cost? Let's find out exactly how much you must spend in this beautiful country. Accommodation, Food, Transportation, and Tourist Attractions are all considered in Canada travel cost calculation!

Accommodation

Overnight accommodation does not come cheap when traveling to Canada. There are many Airbnb accommodations available at a cheaper price than staying in a hotel. On average, the hotel price for a double room is 235 CAD per night. However, depending on the accommodation’s location, the price can fluctuate to $CAD 450 nightly.

In my personal experience, staying in an Airbnb is a better choice since travelers will have more spacious rooms as well as a kitchen and laundry readily available to use. Accommodation will take a considerable portion of your Canada travel cost budget. Hence, my advice is to choose affordable places so you can save money and spend on attractions and foods.

Attractions Tickets

The tourist attractions tickets will be different for each place. The average price will be approximately $CAD 40 per person per attraction. The following information will help you to understand the Canada Travel Cost:

Vancouver:

  • Capilano Suspension Bridge Park: $CAD 69.95
  • FlyOver Canada: $CAD 31
  • Vancouver Aquarium: $CAD 44
  • Harbour Cruises: $CAD 64.95
  • Grouse Mountain: $CAD 75

Toronto:

  • Toronto Zoo: $CAD 31.99
  • CNN Tower Toronto: $CAD 45
  • Casa Loma: $CAD 30
  • Royal Ontario Museum: $CAD 26
  • Ontario Science Centre: $22

Transportation Budget

Travelers who prefer using public transportation will save their Canada travel cost budget significantly. In Vancouver, public transportation will cost only $CAD 12 per day for unlimited traveling zone. This means that tourists can commute anywhere in the Vancouver area without paying any extra fees. The public transportation in Toronto will be $CAD 13.50 for unlimited traveling zones for one day.

Traveling by taxi or ride-sharing app will cost significantly more and affect your Canada travel cost. For example, a taxi drive from YVR airport to downtown Vancouver will be $CAD 38. For ride-sharing apps, although it is cheaper than taxi fares, the price is higher than using public transportation. It is estimated that visitors will need to spend roughly $CAD 120 per day when using private transportation to travel.

Food Budget

While meal prices in Canada can vary, the average cost for one single meal, not in a fancy restaurant, will cost somewhere $CAD 22. Breakfasts are usually cheaper than lunch and dinner. On top of the meal price, travelers must also pay an extra 10-15% tip. Therefore, the total cost for one meal can reach as high as $CAD 30.

Dining in a fancy restaurant will cost much more than a regular restaurant. For instance, dinner at a steak restaurant will cost nearly $CAD 70 per person.

Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons - Canadian coffee chain

However, Vancouver and Toronto are listed as two of the most diverse cities in the world. It is recommended to try out different varieties of foods to understand the cuisines around the world better.

You will not be visiting Canada if you have never tried Tim Hortons, or commonly known as Timmy – a local Canadian coffee chain that offers affordable beverages. They have decent donuts and decent coffee that will be served as your quick-to-go breakfast. Therefore, you will be expected to pay around $CAD 90 for Canada travel cost in food.

Health Insurance

Health Insurance is not mandatory for visitors. However, it is highly recommended that tourists to buy health insurance to protect themselves from unexpected events. For those who do not own health insurance, an ambulance trip will make you pay over $1,000 for a 30-minute emergency ride to the hospital. Health Insurance will surely increase your Canada travel cost up but it is important to buy it!

The Treetops Adventure takes you on a journey of more than 30 meters (100 feet) into the tree canopy, where you will get a view of the verdant coastal rainforest from the middle of the Douglas fir trees that are 1,300 years old. It allows you to explore the tropical rainforest from the perspective of a squirrel. Compression technology on the cutting edge is used at Treetops Adventure to ensure the safe attachment of the viewing platforms and the seven suspension bridges to the surrounding trees. In this procedure, not a single nut, bolt, or nail is utilized.

  1. Visiting Vieux-Montréal

It's a breeze to stroll around the city's historic districts and see all the sights. The highlights of your time here should include seeing the Notre Dame Basilica, walking down Rue Saint-Paul, seeing Bonsecours Market, and hanging around in the open-air plaza of Place Jacques-Cartier. Visit the waterfront and ride the Tyrolienne MTL zipline or the giant Ferris wheel (La Grand roue de Montréal) for some urban adventure.

At night, the streets of Old Montreal fill with diners and patios. In the warmer months, several restaurants add outside seating, either on the sidewalk or atop the building.

It is completely free to visit Vieux-Montreal, so it is highly recommended for those budget travelers.

Parliament Hill

In addition to being a popular place for tourists to visit while traveling to Canada, Parliament Hill is the location of the federal government's administrative headquarters in Canada. Furthermore, Parliament Hill also hosted the annual Ottawa Tulip Festival, which attracted thousands of tourists and visitors coming to Canada during the event.

Parliament Hill, situated next to the Ottawa River, is the location for several significant events and ceremonies, including the one that honors veterans on Veterans Day. In addition, it is the location of the ceremony in which the guards are changed.

Parliament Hill is free of charge to visit as well as guided tours. However, tourists need to reserve ticket in advance to secure their spots.

  1. Lake Louise

Over the past century and a half, Lake Louise has been the must-visit Canada tourist attraction for people traveling to the Canadian Rockies. It is the crown gem of Banff National Park. The enormous glacier that sits atop Mount Victoria provides a beautiful backdrop for the scenic wide lake that is surrounded by large mountains on all sides. Lake Louise would be at the top of my list of the fifty places everyone should see at least once before passing away.

The natural beauty of the area is so awe-inspiring that being on the bank of the lake can feel almost like a spiritual experience at times. Since millions of people travel to the alpine lake every year, it is extremely popular during the summer months.

Glacier waters are known to include rock flour, which is a tiny particle of rock that is responsible for refracting light, which gives the lake its vivid blue color. Due to the fact that the lake is frozen for the bulk of the year, the window of opportunity to view this magnificent hue is tiny. The lake is only 2 kilometers long and 0.5 kilometers wide; thus, despite its widespread popularity, it is not particularly big.

Lake Louis is free of charge to visit. It is a family-friendly site so spend a whole day beside Lake Louis and have a picnic with your friends and family.
